Nishi Obon

Our temple's annual Obon carnival took place on July 11 and 12, a return to a 2-day festival.  ABA's booth offered spam musubi and boba milk tea.  With support of our family and friends, we managed to make and sell massive quantities of food and drink, which went over very well with the crowd.
We thank all those that put in hard work in planning, purchasing, cooking, assembling, wrapping, and selling for our organization.

ABAsonics performed on both days from 4:30pm then after the Obon dancing as folks were cleaning up and leaving.  We were joined on a few numbers by Shigeo on violin, and guest vocalists Kenny, Kenji, Candace, and Rev Himeji.

Surf and Turf 2026

Our annual temple fundraiser with delicious salmon and steak took place on March 7 in the Kaikan.  Three options were available: either the Salmon Plate, the Beef Plate, or Combination Beef and Salmon. ABA took part in the assembly, distribution, and clean-up at the event while all other temple organizations did their own part in making this event a success.  ABAsonics performed a bunch of songs, followed by the ever popular Bingo.  Thanks to all that came to help or support the fundraiser.

ABA 2026 Shinnenkai

ABA commemorated the new year with our annual buffet luncheon.  Anyone working on a dietary new years resolution surely broke it at this event.  Once again we gathered at the Four Seasons Buffet in Cerritos on February 15 for lunch.  Many thanks to Karen and Cindy for organizing the event, including a guessing game and prizes.  Joanne, as always, diligently took the photos shown below.

New Member Welcome / Officer Installation / New Year Party & 50th Anniversary of the Kaikan

The Temple's annual New Member Welcome, Officer Installation, and New Year Party was held together with the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Kaikan on January 25th.  All events took place in our Kaikan.  ABA members were busy preparing the chicken wings and tea as well as serving on the buffet line.  ABAsonics also entertained afterwards with a few songs, including one with Rev. Himeji and Candace, and another Elvis tune by Kenny.  Rev Matsubayashi also got into the act with an a Capella version of song in Japanese.  All photos provided by Joanne.
