Terracotta Warriors at Bowers Museum

ABA and friends took in this special exhibit at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana.  With a couple of docents giving us the tour in two groups, we enjoyed hearing about the history of the discoveries in China and how more items get continuously unearthed.

There were several of the iconic terracotta warriors that this exhibit is famous for.  An elaborate miniature replica of bronze horses and carriage was quite impressive.  We also viewed many bronze items, pottery, jewelry, utensils, needles, etc. that were thousands of years old.  A full immersion video room was pretty cool, being able to see all around us.

Prior to the tour, most of us gathered to have lunch at the Olive Garden in Santa Ana, not too far from the museum.

Obon Carnival July 13

We offered Spam Musubi and Boba Tea in our booth at the Obon Carnival shortened to one day, noon to 6PM.  Preparations started a few days prior, making the tea, slicing the Spam, etc.  Here are photos taken by Joanne.

Hollywood Bowl Concert- Earth, Wind, and Fire

Nishi Spring Concert

We sponsored the Spring Concert Fundraiser on May 31, which was originally planned for the West parking lot but was decided to move indoors to the Kaikan where it is cooler and a better controlled environment.

Many thanks to the affiliate organizations that participated including Girl Scouts, Wanjettes, and Nishi Aikido Ohana.  Thanks to Chris for lending us the credit card payment system.

LA Taiko Ichiza impressed everyone with their opening performance, and later followed by ABAsonics.  A couple of guest vocalists joined in, Temple President Kenny Kawasaki and Rev. Hibiki Murakami.

You may be able to view some of these videos on this website soon.

Many thanks to all that joined us, from OCBC, WLABT, Gardena, Venice, and our own Nishi Temple.

Japanese Heritage Night at Dodger Stadium

Though it was not an official ABA event, a large number of our members attended the Marlins vs Dodgers game on April 28 where the Dodgers came back in extra innings to win 8 to 7.  Here a few photos from the event.  Our favorite taiko group Taiko Ichiza entertained the fans at the Centerfield Plaza before the game.

Surf and Turf 2025

ABA members pitched in for another successful Surf and Turf Fundraiser for our temple.  Our members were very busy packing dinners, confirming ticketed orders and distributing.

Meanwhile folks were able to socialize and catch up with old friends while enjoying the sounds of ABAsonics and many rounds of Bingo.

Drinks, desserts, snacks, 50/50 raffle made for very exhausting and enjoyable evening.

Our 2025 New Year Party was held on February 23 at the Four Seasons Buffet in Cerritos.  Lots of good food and company made for a good time.  Thank you Karen and Cindy for organizing the event, preparing a quiz with prizes, and a bag of candies and lottery ticket for everyone.
